La Maison de Mère d'Youville

La Maison de Mère d'Youville
138 Saint-Pierre Street
(514) 842-9411

These old walls, built in 1694 as the first General Hospital in Montreal, still speak of Saint Marguerite d’Youville who from 1747 to 1771 lived here and received the cities most down-trodden. Walk upon the stone slabs of the room where she served soup, admire the large fireplace and kitchen sink of her era, and pause to reflect in the room where she worked, prayed and died. Although invisible, her presence is greatly sensed. The exhibit "In Her Footsteps" is an historical pilgrimage and a spiritual experience.
By rendez-vous.

Château Ramezay Museum

Château Ramezay - Historic Site and Museum
of Montréal
280 Notre-Dame Street East
(514) 861-3708

This is the former residence of the governors under the French regime, built in the 18th century. Originally a private hotel (the name "château" came later), it was enlarged by the Compagnie des Indes, an enterprise founded in 1717 that exercised a royal monopoly on the exporting of beaver pelts and the importing of certain textiles claimed as trading goods. The building has been a museum since 1895. Its rich, diverse collection is a singular point of contact with the history of Montréal and Québec. Don't miss the Jardin du Gouverneur, a replica of an 18th-century New France garden, complete with café-terrasse.
