An exceptional encounter with the spirit of Old Montréal,
October 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The spirit of Old Montréal and its cachet can be seen in its heritage sites, museums and other cultural institutions. They are all part of Montréal’s cultural life and tourist appeal, and make a significant contribution to the architectural quality and character of the historic district.

This guided tour is a chance for participants to learn about the history of the different museums and cultural institutions in Old Montréal, some of them over a century old, and especially their role in the rebirth of the quarter starting in the 1960s. The museums in the historic district are not only guardians of its heritage, but also places where heritage is created and brought to life, with a contemporary approach designed for visitors of all stripes. They are important players in the cultural, tourism and urban renewal of Old Montréal.

During the tour, on foot and by minibus, the guides will offer a complete portrait of each institution’s immediate neighbourhood.

In the morning: A tour of the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel and the Marguerite-Bourgeoys Museum, followed by the Sir George-Étienne Cartier House National Historic Site of Canada and the Château Ramezay Museum.

Lunch will be at the Montréal Science Centre, in the Old Port of Montréal.

Afternoon: Tour of the Montréal Science Centre and the Old Port of Montréal, followed by Pointe-à-Callière, the Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History, the Centre d’histoire de Montréal, the Musée Marc-Aurèle-Fortin, the Canadian Music Centre and Notre-Dame Basilica.
